The Crafting Table is one of the first and most important blocks players create in Minecraft. It provides access to a 3×3 crafting grid, allowing players to craft tools, weapons, armor, blocks, and many other useful items that cannot be made in the inventory’s smaller 2×2 grid.
How to Craft a Crafting Table

You need:
- 4 Wooden Planks
- 1 Crafting Table output
Any type of wooden planks can be used, including Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, Dark Oak, Mangrove, Cherry, Bamboo, Crimson, Warped, and Pale Oak planks.

Arrange the four planks in a 2×2 square in your inventory crafting grid. This produces one Crafting Table.
How to Use a Crafting Table
Place the Crafting Table in the world and interact with it to open the 3×3 crafting interface. This larger grid allows you to create advanced recipes such as:

- Pickaxes and other tools
- Swords and weapons
- Armor
- Chests
- Furnaces
- Beds
- Buckets
- Enchanting Tables
- Many building and utility blocks
The Crafting Table also includes a recipe book, which helps players find available recipes and automatically place the required ingredients into the crafting grid.
Where Can You Find a Crafting Table?
Crafting Tables can sometimes be found naturally in generated structures, including:
- Villages
- Witch Huts
- Igloos
- Pillager Outposts
- Trial Chambers
- Some other generated structures
You can break a Crafting Table using any tool or even your hand, although an axe is the fastest tool for collecting it.
Other Uses
A Crafting Table can also be used as furnace fuel, smelting 1.5 items. It can repair damaged tools, weapons, and armor by combining two damaged items of the same material, but this method removes their enchantments.
Crafting Tables can also be placed beneath Note Blocks to produce a bass sound.
The Crafting Table is an essential utility block for almost every Minecraft survival world because it unlocks the majority of the game’s crafting system.
