How to Use a Minecraft Seed (Java & Bedrock)
Learn how to enter and use any Minecraft seed on Java and Bedrock Edition so you can load the exact world you want in just a few steps.
A Minecraft seed is a special code that tells the game how to generate a world. When you enter the same seed, you get the same terrain, biomes, and structure layout (with some differences between Java and Bedrock).
This guide shows you exactly how to use a seed on both Java and Bedrock Edition, plus a few important tips so the world generates correctly.
How to Use a Minecraft Seed in Simple Steps
Follow these steps depending on which version you play.
How to Use a Seed on Java Edition
Java Edition makes it very easy to enter a seed while creating a new world.
Steps:
- Open Minecraft Java Edition and click Singleplayer.
- Click Create New World.
- Click More World Options….
- Find the Seed for the World Generator box.
- Paste or type the seed number (example:
234564697080710). - Choose your Game Mode, Difficulty, and other settings.
- Click Create New World.
Your world will now generate using that exact seed. Terrain should match what was shown in the seed post (structures can still vary slightly by version).
How to Use a Seed on Bedrock Edition
Bedrock Edition (Windows, Mobile, Console) also supports seeds, but the menu looks a little different.
Steps:
- Open Minecraft Bedrock and go to the main menu.
- Click Play → Create New World.
- Go to the Advanced tab (or World Settings).
- Find the Seed box.
- Paste or type the full seed number carefully.
- Adjust other settings if needed (Game Mode, Difficulty, etc.).
- Click Create.
On phones and consoles the menu names may look slightly different, but the Seed box is always inside the world creation / advanced settings.
Important Tips Before You Enter a Seed
- Copy the seed exactly (including the minus sign if it has one).
- Java and Bedrock can generate different structures even with the same seed.
- Always check which edition the seed was tested on.
- World version matters — older seeds may look different on newest updates.
- Do not leave extra spaces before or after the seed number.
If the world looks completely different from the screenshots, double-check that you selected the correct edition and pasted the seed without mistakes.
Java vs Bedrock – What Changes?
The same seed does not always give the exact same world on both editions.
What usually stays the same:
Terrain shape, biomes, and overall landscape layout.
What can be different:
Village locations, Trial Chambers, Ancient Cities, temples, shipwrecks,
and other structures.
That is why every good seed post clearly mentions whether it was tested on Java, Bedrock, or both.
